Acupuncture has been around for about 3,000 years.
Huge numbers of people around the World use acupuncture, but how does it work?

Acupuncture from Chinese Medicine Point of View
Ancient Chinese believed that there is healing, invisible to the human eye energy (Qi or Chi) circulates in the body. This Qi circulates in pathways called channels (some times called meridians). These meridians run individually in each organ all over the body. Each organ has its own pathway, which crosses its pathways with other meridians and attaches to corresponding organs.

By stimulating meridians with acupuncture needles, this energy starts moving around channels and also moving blood. If energy and blood in the body are stagnant, we get sick. By circulating or "moving Qi", we reinvigorate the body's natural defences and that is how our system gets back to health. That is why exercising and leading an active lifestyle is beneficial to your health.

Acupuncture from Western Point of View
It works by stimulating body's natural healing powers and helps immune system by releasing natural pain killers (endorphins, dopamine, etc.) balancing endocrine system, affecting spastic muscles and  trigger points.

When an acupuncture needle is inserted into the body, the body "thinks" it is being "attacked" and defends the body by activating the immune system and its healing properties.

A properly selected Acupuncture point can stop pain, reduce inflammation and its neurological pain symptoms like tingling or burning.

Nerve Ending Acupuncture Stimulation
Most acupuncture points, especially used in our style (Master Tung's Acupuncture) are located on the extremities (from toes to the knee and from fingers to the elbow). When an acupuncture needle pierces the skin, it also stimulates the nerve endings. Most acupuncture points are at or near rich supply of nerves. This stimulation in turn sends an impulse to the brain and the brain triggers healing mechanisms.

Acupuncture Body Memory
Also a microscopic needle penetrated skin holes in the body require body's healing and create a memory in the brain that allows for longer healing after the needles are removed from the body. It is said that it takes about 72 hours to completely heal acupuncture micro punctured sites. That is why in many cases, treatments are repeated up to 2 or 3 times a week in certain cases.

What Can Acupuncture Treat ?
According to WHO (World Health Organization), close to 50 conditions can be treated with acupuncture. Any painful (back pain, sciatica, headaches, etc.) condition is very well treated by Acupuncture, because increase of dopamines and endorphins production in the body and at the site of pain as well.  Spastic muscles and trigger points can also be further reduced with special methods.

Immune System can be well balanced with Acupuncture as well as internal organs, endocrine system, blood and body fluids.

Depression and Anxiety by removing stagnation and stimulating the brain and releasing sadness and bad memories. Acupuncture relaxes muscles, calms the mind and induces tranquility.

Stress and Insomnia is always a benefactor at times by default, as many acupuncture points produce deep relaxation on physical, mental and emotional levels.

Infertility and PMS by increasing blood flow to the reproductive organs. Delayed labour, breech baby, Endometriosis, Fibroid and Pelvic pains are also within reach of Chinese Medicine.

Acupuncture Facial Rejuvenation
Facial (smallest possible) needles bring nutrients to the face and relax facial muscles.  It is also believed that cosmetic acupuncture can repair the skin making it smoother and produce collagen.

Asthma and many other respiratory diseases is a definite acupuncture benefactor, because acupuncture circulates and expands Lung energy and its relationship to other organs.

So when is it good to do Acupuncture ?
Anytime, especially as prevention, when you are really healthy and want to live longer and better. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of medicine.
