Spring time traditionally in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine is associated with the Liver. Many people experience allergy and allergic reactions such as: Headaches (especially Temple and Frontal / Forehead area) runny nose, sneezing, and watery, itchy red eyes. Liver is associated in Chinese Medicine with Wood element. Liver is one of the detoxifying organs in our body and it's a good time to help it do the job of removing toxins from our system. Acupuncture, Chinese Herbs and Homeopathy is one of the most powerful ways to take care of your Liver.
For self-help enthusiasts, a simple green tea with lemon(color going with the Liver is GREEN with squeezed Lemon (taste of the Liver is SOUR)and a hint of Mint is a good and safe way to detoxify the Liver and please your palate as well.
Emotion of the Liver is ANGER. So if you find yourself a bit angry or irritable, blame it on the Spring. Liver does not like Alcohol, so avoid it or drink it in moderation. Avoid Greasy Fried Foods and eat less meats, especially on warmer days. Eat more green foods like: peppers, tea with squeezed lemon, etc.
Liver stores Blood and is greatly responsible for menstrual cycle, effects PMS and is a major reproductive organ for females. We most often focus on regulating the Liver functions for women coming for fertility. Endometriosis and PCOS is often attributed on a large part to stagnation of Liver energy (Qi) in the body. Yogic Breathing
The breath of fire in my video below is an excellent self-help practice you can give yourself in addition to Acupuncture, Chinese Herbs and Yoga to help maintain and invigorate your energy and well being. Yogic Breathing or " Pranayama" is a work out for your organs and insides. It's there for you, so invest in your well being as you invest in your retirement accounts, as no money can buy you Health, nor Love. IF you are pregnant, please consult your MD before doing the breathing.

Oh yes almost forgot the weight loss... I actually wanted to leave it for the Summer. But here is a little preview. To lose weight you need to burn more calories than you consume. The best way is to eat smaller meals and eat many snacks in between meals, (up to 6-8 a day) so you can eat smaller meals without being hungry.
ACUPUNCTURE and CHINESE HERBS
Acupuncture has special points that can help reduce cravings for sweets and other food cravings. Acupuncture and Chinese Herbs can help regulate body's metabolism, help detoxify the body, improve digestion and reduce constipation and body edema along with water retention.

Green Tea drunk 3-6 cups a day can not only reduce the stress and toxins, but is also shown to reduce weight and even stress. ( If you're caffeine sensitive stop drinking after 3-4pm in order to get a sound sleep). Japanese Green Tea "Sencha" in my opinion is the best. If you like, our office can order organic Loose Green Tea for you.
FOODS: Avoid greasy or fried foods. Eat less meat and more fruits and vegetables, especially green ones.
Eat the biggest meal in the morning between 9-11am (strongest digestive function), east much less at dinner time. Eat reasonable snacks in between meals, especially toward dinner. Best is you replace your dinner with, say 3-4 small snacks and a glass of water with lemon for instance. (eating smaller and frequent meals will help you reduce your appetite and reduce the size of your stomach and therefore help you consume less food. Eat OATMEAL for breakfast and may be even dinner. Change toppings according to your taste: cranberries, walnuts, seeds, raisins, flax seeds etc.
EXERCISES:
You will need to burn your calories of course. The Yogic breathing described above gives you exercises for your internal organs and will help optimize your metabolism. Walking 30-60 min a day is good.
One of the best ways to get in shape, tone your body and loose weight at the same time is working with KETTLEBELLS. I am personally completely sold on it. I used to have them as a kid back in Russia and now bought them again. This new phenomena is sweeping USA for a good reason. They provide aerobic and weight training at the same time. Some of the movements like Swings between legs, not only tone your leg and buttocks, stretch muscles, tendons and ligaments but they also do Foot massages (reflexology). 3-6 minutes of those babies a day or even every other day gets you in great shape. Generally speaking for Men starting weight is 35lb for women 10-18lb. You may go lower or higher depending on your level of fitness. Strongly recommended to check with your MD before starting this type of conditioning. You may want to order a DVD on Kettle Bells to develop proper techniques and avoid injuries.
