Acupuncture has been around for about 3,000 years.
Huge numbers of people around the World use acupuncture, but how does it work?

Acupuncture from Chinese Medicine Point of View
Ancient Chinese believed that there is healing, invisible to the human eye energy (Qi or Chi) circulates in the body. This Qi circulates in pathways called channels (some times called meridians). These meridians run individually in each organ all over the body. Each organ has its own pathway, which crosses its pathways with other meridians and attaches to corresponding organs.

By stimulating meridians with acupuncture needles, this energy starts moving around channels and also moving blood. If energy and blood in the body are stagnant, we get sick. By circulating or "moving Qi", we reinvigorate the body's natural defences and that is how our system gets back to health. That is why exercising and leading an active lifestyle is beneficial to your health.

Acupuncture from Western Point of View
It works by stimulating body's natural healing powers and helps immune system by releasing natural pain killers (endorphins, dopamine, etc.) balancing endocrine system, affecting spastic muscles and  trigger points.

When an acupuncture needle is inserted into the body, the body "thinks" it is being "attacked" and defends the body by activating the immune system and its healing properties.

A properly selected Acupuncture point can stop pain, reduce inflammation and its neurological pain symptoms like tingling or burning.

Nerve Ending Acupuncture Stimulation
Most acupuncture points, especially used in our style (Master Tung's Acupuncture) are located on the extremities (from toes to the knee and from fingers to the elbow). When an acupuncture needle pierces the skin, it also stimulates the nerve endings. Most acupuncture points are at or near rich supply of nerves. This stimulation in turn sends an impulse to the brain and the brain triggers healing mechanisms.

Acupuncture Body Memory
Also a microscopic needle penetrated skin holes in the body require body's healing and create a memory in the brain that allows for longer healing after the needles are removed from the body. It is said that it takes about 72 hours to completely heal acupuncture micro punctured sites. That is why in many cases, treatments are repeated up to 2 or 3 times a week in certain cases.

What Can Acupuncture Treat ?
According to WHO (World Health Organization), close to 50 conditions can be treated with acupuncture. Any painful (back pain, sciatica, headaches, etc.) condition is very well treated by Acupuncture, because increase of dopamines and endorphins production in the body and at the site of pain as well.  Spastic muscles and trigger points can also be further reduced with special methods.

Immune System can be well balanced with Acupuncture as well as internal organs, endocrine system, blood and body fluids.

Depression and Anxiety by removing stagnation and stimulating the brain and releasing sadness and bad memories. Acupuncture relaxes muscles, calms the mind and induces tranquility.

Stress and Insomnia is always a benefactor at times by default, as many acupuncture points produce deep relaxation on physical, mental and emotional levels.

Infertility and PMS by increasing blood flow to the reproductive organs. Delayed labour, breech baby, Endometriosis, Fibroid and Pelvic pains are also within reach of Chinese Medicine.

Acupuncture Facial Rejuvenation
Facial (smallest possible) needles bring nutrients to the face and relax facial muscles.  It is also believed that cosmetic acupuncture can repair the skin making it smoother and produce collagen.

Asthma and many other respiratory diseases is a definite acupuncture benefactor, because acupuncture circulates and expands Lung energy and its relationship to other organs.

So when is it good to do Acupuncture ?
Anytime, especially as prevention, when you are really healthy and want to live longer and better. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of medicine.

Acupuncture treatments reduce Pain, Improve Fertility, Immune SystemPrevent diseases and Premature Aging. Regular Acupuncture treatments can Boost your Energy, help you Live Longer and Better Life! (these statements have not been evaluated by the FDA)

According to Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine the Summer time is related to the organ of the HEART.

The heart in Chinese Medicine houses the Spirit, which means mental faculties like: memory, calmness or anxiety can be attributed to the heart function, in addition to regular Western function of pumping blood.

Conditions like high blood pressure, memory can be attributed to the heart. The color for the heart is RED, the emotion is laughter. If someone laughs inappropriately and very frequently, that may be a sign of heart imbalance. The heart has a close relationship with the Kidneys.

Acupuncture can treat conditions like: heart palpitation, insomnia, irritability and acute and chronic stress in addition to aches and pains.

FOOD: In the summertime, it is best to eat smaller portions. Because of extra heat, the body is under more stress and smaller portions will make you less tired and less sleepy. Also, eat less meat and chicken as they have warm energetic properties and are harder to digest. Instead, eat more nuts or peanuts or walnuts, etc. Fruits and vegetables are most appropriate for the summertime, because of the large moisture content and cooling properties.

Cooling Foods: According to Chinese Medicine, watermelon is good for the Summer, because it cools the body by promoting urination. Also, the color of the watermelon is red, which is good for the heart according to acupuncture and Chinese Medicine seasonal eating. Tomatoes are also good for the Summer as they are red and nourish the Heart and contain a lot of liquid which is often lost through Summer perspiration.

EXERCISES and BEACH:  Do your workouts before 12pm or after 4pm when it is less hot and the body will better handle the workload. As far as staying on the beach during heat, the sun drains you of energy so same hours should be observed to avoid drainage of energy.

Stay cool and be well,

SPRING season often triggers seasonal allergies with symptoms ranging from: watery eyes, headaches, to sneezing and running nose.  Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine refer Sprig time with the functions of the Liver.  Liver removes toxins and stores blood. This organ opens into the eyes and has to do with quality of the nails.  It also is very important for Fertility as it heavily responsible for Menstrual Cycle.

Any PMS pain is mostly due to blockage of the Liver. Liver energy moves through the lower abdomen.  Often pain in the ovaries, lower abdomen and testicular pain in men is due to Liver energy blockage.

Depression and mood swings can also be greatly due to the Liver imbalance.

The Good news is that Acupuncture, Chinese Herbs and Homeopathy do a very good job at balancing the Liver and promoting health and vitality.  Liver has an ability to regenerate itself and Spring time is the best time. Alcohol and anger damage the Liver as so do drugs (prescription or recreational).
Squeezed lemon water 30 min before
meal helps detox the liver

FOOD:
Color associated with the Liver is Green. Green Peppers, Avocado is  So green leafy vegetables are good food for the Liver. Taste of the Liver is sour, so squeezing lime or lemon juice into your tea or water before or after meals will act as a natural cleanser and Liver Detox.

Self Help:
Yogic breathing to facilitate the Liver function and Detox.
Also a HEPA  filter air purifier left on over night may offer help from allergies as well as neti pot . If you like the video, please rate it and leave a comment. Thanks.

Chinese all over the World are celebrating the year 4709 or the Year of the Rabbit

I personally look at any New Year, mostly as another chance to get my "house" in order and another reason to reexamine my values and goals. Lately it comes to Health and Happiness.

We all have different concerns at different stages of our lives, however Health and Happiness are central issues and take constant planning and are always on going.

Few things are more precious  than health. Health is a foundation of happiness. If your health  is good, you should be full of energy and drive to live your life to the fullest.
Acupuncture can help your health by adjusting digestion, improving sleep, and giving you energy to make changes in your life.

Exercises - Yoga, Jogging, Tai Chi or anything that pumps your blood better is good.  Click link  http://www.newyorkacupuncturecenter.com/self_help_acupuncture_yoga.html

Sleep -  is a single most important foundation to regenerating your body and fixing your Immune System and energizing, fueling mental faculty, the Brain .

Digestion -  After sleep, digestion is the next main ingredient in maintaining your energy levels. Organic food is preferred and certain hours of consumption apply. Click the link.   http://www.newyorkacupuncturecenter.com/loose_weight_acupuncture_for_weight_loss.html

Happiness in my opinion is made up of a few components.
First of all relation to the SELF. Acupuncture can induce deep mental relaxation and tranquillity.  Acupuncture can also reduce depression anxiety, stress and reset your mind on a peaceful journey.

Self - You need to like yourself. (Fix things to like yourself, if not entirely happy). Got to be your best friend, nobody else will

Relationship / Marriage if you belong to any of these categories, than your life is greatly effected by the other party and could be a great component of your Happiness ! Keep  if running smoothly.

Friends and Family -  Good friends are worth in gold. Friends can be acquired and changed, family will remain.Either can have a great impact on once life.

Health is a major foundation for HAPPINESS ! It should be a part of New Year's Resolution. According to WHO (World Health Organization, Acupuncture is recommended for about 50 medical conditions. To help you better achieve your health and wellness goals, we are offering: COUPONS / GIFT CERTIFICATES

* $40 off initial Acupuncture visit to friends and family

I often see clients in my NYC Acupuncture clinic coming with New Year's resolution to either quit smoking, lose weight, reduce stress or just  balance Body, Mind Spirit. However come February most people quit ! Why ?  I think there are several reasons for majority of unfulfilled goals. (see article at the bottom how Acupuncture can help your New Year's Everyday's Resolution).

First Reason:  New Year's Resolution should be called Daily ResolutionThe very word "New Year" implies a short term effort.  The word daily means every God damn Day ! Get it ? Long term goals are planned for a short period of time. What it means is that you need a Daily, Weekly and Monthly plan.  Emphasis is on Daily !

Second Reason: Unrealistic or unattainable  goals are set.  Go easy on yourself. A little of improvement goes a long way.  Set easily achieved goals.  Build up self confidence  and a starting point. You can always turn on the intensity and pressure later. One step at a time ! A journey  of many miles, begins with a tiny step !

Third Reason: Repetition ,  Discipline and Specific Details !  Set the day, time of activity or concept. If its going to the Gym 2 x week, then make it, say: Tue and Fri at 7pm. If you are cutting down on sweets, then maybe you will eat half of the chocolate you normally consume or only a certain days (Sat or Sun).

*** Also revise your plan and readjust for circumstances and interferences.  Let's say you were busy or did not make it to the Gym 2 times a day, so you then readjust a better time or day or you make up going to the Gym 3 x next week. If its food, and you ate late or ate something you are trying to avoid (too many sweets..) plan to reasonably make up the next day or week.

How Acupuncture can help your New Year's Resolution

Weight Loss: Many people use Acupuncture for weight loss.  Acupuncture can reduce cravings for sweets and regulate metabolism. It can also rid body of access water in some cases.  Addictions (Food, Smoking, Drugs etc). Most of all Acupuncture works as prevention and body harmonizing tool Acupuncture Diet and Weight Loss Tips Link

Exercises / Pain: Acupuncture can reduce aches and pains, and strengthen the body's muscles so you can keep up with your fitness routine, pain free. If you have back pain, neck pain or any other pain, acupuncture can put you back on track faster and better. Acupuncture for Pain and Exercises Link

Stress: If stress keeps you from good sleep and effects your energy levels, then Acupuncture may calm your mind and relax your body and lay a solid foundation for social and physical activities. Acupuncture also reduces stress and optimizes your body's defenses

Prevention: Maintaining your health and having all your systems "running smoothly" is the most important function of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine.
