World Health Organization recommends acupuncture for about 50 medical conditions. Some of the conditions that acupuncture successfully treats are written on this acupuncture model picture. Top three conditions I see in my office are Back Pain/Stress, Sciatica and Infertility.
Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) have centuries of successful documented medical treatments. Acupuncture needles stimulate and unblock energy (Qi) that flows in acupuncture meridians or channels, reduce pain and promote holistic health. Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine is a complete ancient medical system, with its own diagnosis deeply rooted in Medical Principles of Yin & Yang. - See more at: http://www.newyorkacupuncturecenter.com/index.html#sthash.TAqVCNbJ.dpuf

HOW ACUPUNCTURE WORKS Click this link.

Best time to come and seek acupuncture treatments is when you have no problems. Why, because you can focus on body's optimum performance and on maintaining your peak health performance. I would say 2 times a month for a person 35 years of age and older and 1 time a month under 35 unless you are an athlete or have some chronic issues. I personally treat myself 2 times a month and if stressed, up to 3 times a week until balance is reached.

Acupuncture Point in the spot light DU20
This acupuncture pscalp acupunctureoint called Du20 at the top of the middle of the head and close to the brain is often used in my acupuncture clinic. I use it for stress and this point often that puts so many of my clients into a sleep/ meditative states and relaxes the mind)
INDICATIONS: Calms the mind, reduces stress, promotes clarity of the mind,
reduces insomnia, stress, dizziness and helps with balance.

I compare acupuncture treatments to a SPA or a short vacation effect. You come down relax for 30-40 minutes, reduce the stress, fall asleep and look ( Facial AcupunctureAcupuncture for weight loss) and feel a lot better. I think its a good deal and we all know about death and taxes, so acupuncture makes death a more distant event. The better you feel and more relaxed, the more you accomplish in your personal and professional life.

Yoga Posture of the Month
Cobra posture works on upper and lower back,  on every organ in your body and specifically the Lungs, Kidneys, Endocrine System, Muscles and Tendons, Low and Upper Back and much, much more.

Foods to eat
As it gets colder and our body is 70% water it becomes cooler, so we need to eat energetically warmer foods and drinks.  Cooking with ginger and garlic and drinking hot beverages (coffee, tea or warm water) helps digestion ( NO cold or iced water before or during meals )

STRANGERS ARE PEOPLE YOU HAVE NOT MET YET

WE ARE ALL ONE PEOPLE.
"STRANGERS ARE FRIENDS YOU HAVE NOT MET."

I wanted to share an interesting event that took place today as I was jogging on this beautiful sunny Saturday on Brighton Beach.  As I was jogging, I noticed and young woman in the cold water standing up to her waist.  I was surprised, because on Brighton Beach usually older people swim when its cold.

strangers as friends
I shouted to the woman: "How is the water ?" She replied: "It is very good". I said: "It hurts me to see you like that". She said: "It is a state of mind".

As I was jogging past her I kept looking at her just standing and not moving. So as I was jogging back towards her and she was standing there all by herself being so brave I shouted: "Is there room for another person", she laughed and said something I could not hear. Then I said:  "I can just be crazy enough to join you". She made welcoming gestures. And so I did.

The water was actually warm. Turned out she did not know how to swim and that is why she did not move :)  We were just standing in the water and talked and I noticed that I was getting warm, it was no longer cold. We talked about her being a teacher and being interested in physics and how she bought land in Missouri and practices sustainable living in a community. I was standing in my boxer shirts and tried to swim a bit. Then it was time to get out.

The stranger was not longer a stranger, but JAMIE. She's been to India two times, was a Yoga teacher, was thinking of studying Acupuncture and traveled a lot.  She offered me her towel, so I could change and we took pictures you see here, I felt total acceptance from a total stranger

I was also a Yoga teacher and of course an acupuncturist. We went to same college at different times, as I found out from her Facebook later.

Then she said: "STRANGERS ARE FRIENDS YOU HAVE NOT MET. That is what I was thinking when I was in the water." And I told her that that is what made me jump, it was worth the risk. The reward of spending some time with who accepts you just the way you are, unconditionally in the moment is absolutely PRICELESS !
Jamie's Land.

I may never see Jamie again, but this moment of UNITY will stay with me forever, just like many others with random strangers (who gave me their only umbrella at the risk of being wet (does that happen in NYC ?) and someone who gave me a lift in Hawaii for free, just asked to pass on the favor, and I thought it was my car service etc.)

When we treat others with an open heart and respect,

THE WORLD IS NOT SO STRANGE ANYMORE.

HEY PEOPLE - We are "ALL ONE PEOPLE"

Fall in Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture is associated with the
Lungs and Large Intestine. Now is a good time to get your immune
system in optimum condition to prepare for cold & flu season.

The Lungs control the
skin and pores and are the first form of
defense against exogenous and respiratory pathogens like wind
and cold. which is the first line of defense for the immune system.
The color for the lungs is white and emotion is sadness or sorrow

Lungs are often referred to as a delicate organ because it is sensitive to weather changes. The Lungs are often associated with sadness or depression (at times when I insert Lung related acupuncture points, some people would cry, releasing sadness in this way) in Chinese Medicine. Energy of the Lungs has a close relationship with the Kidneys. Difficulties either in inhaling or exhaling can be linked to the

Lungs or Kidneys depending on the symptoms. Acupuncture and Chinese Herbs do a very good job treating respiratory disorders like Asthma, COPD, Shortness of Breath and Allergies, etc.

Fall in New York brings drastic and volatile weather changes. Our bodies and immune system are often subjected to respiratory problems like cold, flu and asthma in this season. So here are a few steps to prepare yourself for seasonal changes and strengthen the immune system.

Acupuncture and Immune System There are certain Acupuncture Points that stimulate your immune system. Acupuncture can adjust your energy to prepare the body for
a particular season, especially the one like Fall with constant changes of temperature. Acupuncture also reduces stress and
  optimizes your body's defenses.

Weather Best thing you can do is not to expose your body to the wind and extreme weather changes during Fall season. If you dress appropriately for the weather, you are less likely to catch a cold. So scarf, hat and appropriate shoes will all do when the temperature drops.

Food As it gets colder, you need to cut down on cold (energy) food like salads and eat warmer energetic food like chicken, hot soups an root vegetables potatoes, yam, beans etc etc. Cook with ginger (or scallions, garlic, cinnamon), seeds and nuts. I personally like walnuts best because they are also good for the Kidneys and the Brain which come into play in the Winter - Kidney Season.

Garlic has antibacterial and immune system properties and thins blood. It disperses stagnant energy by promoting circulation of energy in your body and the Lungs. It is also very useful for those flu seasons.
Drinks Drinking a warm glass of water or tea with a generous squeeze of lemon is a great way to detox your Liver and enhance intake of Vitamin C which may help your immune system as well. Consuming warmer liquids is your way of helping your body to maintain body temperature at cold temperature. Also warm drinks help circulation and sweating which in turns helps cool the body in warm climates. In some tropical climates, people drink hot tea even in extreme heat, believe it or not.

SelfCare Taking Care of YOURSELF

CELEBRATION of SELF CARE and HAPPINESS

DON'T BITE THE HAND
                        THAT FEEDS YOU !

Yes, YOU, YOUR hand !!!
I  joked with my friend. While she was eating her own cooked meal, she told me how good it was. I visualized her getting a spoonful of pasta and putting it in her mouth.

Then I said: "DON'T BITE THE HAND THAT FEEDS YOU !" she said it does not make sense.  You be the judge and please leave a comment, so I know how people feel.

We all know what the expression means, and we all assume its someone else who is taking care of us or doing something for us.
BUT, it is actually our self who feeds us and is taking care of our self.  Very little to nothing happens in our World, good or bad without our participation.

So we all made it so far, it's time to give thanks to yourself and
DON'T BITE THE HAND THAT FEEDS YOU !

I see it as Being YOUR BEST FRIEND, the only one who will always be there for you till your last day. Do not take this person for granted. Make sure the "hand that feeds you" - yourself is always happy, healthy and is getting a fare share of good Life.

The point is we are masters of our Happiness or Misery, so taking care of Your Self is a WONDERFUL thing.

Lemon juice and its applications in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine

All you need is ....
Lemon Water. Sour taste in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine corresponds to the Liver and Gall Bladder. When you squeeze lemon juice into a glass of water not only you are getting a doze of vitamin C, but it also stimulates digestion, detoxes the liver and if used frequently may prevent or even reduce gall stones (not varied by FDA).
lemon juice liver detox in acupuncture

Warm water or room temperature is advisable as cold or iced water will impair digestion and cold generally contacts objects so less blood will flow in to your digestive tract and warm as we know increases circulation so more blood in your intestines is a good thing.

Besides ice cubes in the past were known to contain fecal matter :(
DO you really need it ?  In authentic Chinese restaurants they always give you hot tea. So raise the sour glass and toast to your health,
 CHEERS !

P.S. BTW lime is good too.

forgiveness and acupuncture

Forgiveness allows you to practice non attachment

None attachment is talked about in Yoga Philosophy, Chinese \

Medicine and many other Spiritual Practices.

Attachments bring pain and suffering. When you honestly forgive and let go, you no longer attached to the past and are able to move forward.

Yesterday is gone, Tomorrow is not guaranteed.

All we have is NOW.

That is what it means to Live in the NOW ! THE PRESENT

Forgivness allows you to disconnect from the bad experience and save your energy and channel it in the proper direction allowing fast er healing.

FORGIVE NOW and ENJOY PEACE OF MIND.

It takes months and for some of us even years, but in the end you realize it is needed and its a healthy only option to move forward and pay attention to your life and the once close to you.

START YOUR Journey on a path to HEALING.

Healing comes in many ways. As a licensed acupuncturist in New York City, I see a lot of stressed people who can not let go or stuck in bad Life habits and patterns. Through Acupuncture treatments and special acupuncture points that induce deep relaxation and transform the mind into an objective way of thinking healing is facilitated.

However the major healer and the master of your destiny is

 Y O U !
