Immune System - Covid and Acupuncture in the Winter

Wintertime falls on the kidneys and the bladder in acupuncture and Chinese Medicine.

This winter season brings more challenges to our health, more than any other. In addition to the flu and cold season, we have COVID-19 to worry about.

NYC acupuncture in the winter

What it all comes down to is the common sense of wearing a mask indoors, warm clothes and strengthening your immune system.

I have seen post-Covid damages done to a few fully recovered patients (being tested negative of the virus consistently). Many develop post-infection respiratory and heart symptoms. Some develop neurological conditions and some simply experience chronic fatigue.

Some of our post-COVID fully recovered patients who could not breathe well are jogging now after treatments in our clinic.

The good news is that the immune system can be strengthened through lifestyle, dietary changes, exercises, and many therapies offered at  Tree of Life Acupuncture NYC clinic.

FOODS such as garlic/ garlic water, onions, and ginger can provide antibacterial and antimicrobial actions and benefit the immune system, the lungs and keep you warm in the winter cold.

At Tree of Life Acupuncture clinic, we treat chronic and acute pain, neurological conditions, and immune system disorders.
We offer prevention and health maintenance options and work with
Lyme, cancer patients, and many chronic autoimmune system disorders.

Acupuncture and Chinese Herbs can reduce stress and strengthen your immune system as well as correct sleep, digestive functions, depression and anxiety, and a host of other conditions

Kidneys have a special relationship with the Heart/Bladder and the Lungs. You can think of Kidneys as your batteries (Positive + and Negative -).

Kidneys also rule lower back, so if you have some symptoms that are worse in the Winter (back pain, breathing problems, blood pressure issues (high and low). Low energy levels may also be attributed to the kidneys. As well as infertility and low libido in men or women. If legs are swollen, you can be sure that Kidney energy is involved.

Foods to Eat in the Winter

  • Any food black in color or in kidney-shaped is good in the winter. Black beans, kidney beans (most beans).
  • Seeds: flax seeds, black sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, etc.
  • Fruits: Blackberries and blueberries.
  • Seafood: fish, shrimp and seaweed.
  • Nuts: walnuts, chestnuts, etc.
Hot soups, especially made of root vegetables are great to keep you well-nourished and warm. Soups are nutritious and they prepare and warm up your digestive system for food consumption.

Animal Products: Pork, duck, lamb, eggs, cheese, etc. A small amount of animal protein can be used therapeutically here. Too much meat, particularly without the balance of vegetables, will stagnate the Liver and create heat.

Bone Marrow Broths and Soups: This will nourish Marrow governed by Kidneys. Especially beneficial for people wanting to prevent or heal osteoporosis.

The emotional element of kidneys is "Fear", so if someone is exposed to a lot of fear, it may result in kidney imbalance (anxiety, restlessness insomnia, etc).

Wishing everyone to stay well and healthy,

The fall season always tests our immune system, especially in NYC as there is always more stress in Manhattan.

Covid19 outbreaks will continue in many states and big dance cities like New YorkCity.

Fall is associated with the Lungs in Chinese Medicine and lungs control the skin and skin pores. Our skin is the first line of defense against many pathogens, parasites, bacteria, and even viruses.

Fall in NYC
A strong immune system can be achieved by eating good nutrition:
root vegetables, garlic, onions.

Acupuncture can reduce stress and increase your body's vitality.

In Addition to Chinese Medicine, we offer Electromedicine therapy options, which are effective for pain, stress, immune system, Lyme disease, and some holistic cancer therapies. (Read Below)

Prepare Your Immune System

Helps with digestion, skin problems, and healing.

Lungs in acupuncture and Chinese medicine control the skin and open into the nose. The weather in New York City is not lungs friendly so we need to dress according to the ever-changing climate. If you are poorly dressed, the wind can penetrate through the pores and affect your lungs with cold, fever, runny nose, and later cough.

Call us at (212) 533-1192 if you have any questions. Fall is the best time to get your immune system in order for the Winter!

Food for Fall
Due to the air temperature is getting cooler, we all should eat warmer foods like a bit of chicken, meat, or fish.

White-colored and spicy food is good for the lungs and large intestine.

Cooking with onions or garlic may benefit the lungs and so is eating white fish, or even white wine in moderation.

Emotions

Sadness or grief are the emotions associated with the lungs and the large intestine. Acupuncture often releases blocked emotions freeing up the Qi circulation and removing energetic blockages.
Stay warm!
Be well,
Mark & Ginny

Acupuncture and Heart Health in the Summer in NYC

Tree of Life Acupuncture
32 Union Square E #804, New York, NY 10003
  (212) 533-1192

The Heart organ in acupuncture and Chinese Medicine falls on the season of early Summer in NYC.

Heart functions in Chinese Medicine not only includes pumping and circulating blood but also houses the spirits and has many internal organ connections.

During covid19 times, anxiety, depression, stress may affect heart functions.

The heart organ gets more energy and is affected during summertime and should be paid attention too. Some people do not do well in the Summer due to heart imbalances and may develop higher blood pressure, insomnia/anxiety, or dizziness.

acupuncture in NYC in the summer
The heart is connected to its hollow paired yang organ small intestine.
Foods that are red in color are most beneficial for the heart. (watermelon, tomatoes etc.)

The heart houses the mind which means the heart is responsible for the sound functioning of the mind.
Further, the heart has energetic connections to the kidneys and the gall bladder.

Some heart imbalances can lead to insomnia, anxiety, high blood pressure, and an unbalanced mind.

Below listed therapies can help in many ways with the immune system, heart functions, and many other chronic and acute conditions or just enhance personal wellness and well being.

Chinese Herbs can address internal chronic problems related to blood and deep Yin Yang imbalances.

PEMF Therapy can restore the electrical system by raising your voltage, detoxing the body from electrical pollution, and energizing the organs and tissue for healing.

Electromedicine Therapy like bioresonance can scan your body for abnormalities and balance it to health using electromagnetic vibrations and frequencies.

For your convenience, we now offer booking appointments online.

Stay well and healthy,
Mark

Acupuncture and Spring Time in NYC

Tree of Life Acupuncture New York City Center
32 Union Square E #804, New York, NY 10003
  (212) 533-1192

Spring is here in NYC! In Acupuncture and Chinese medicine,  it is liver and gallbladder organs.

In the covid19 environment, stress and frustrations affect liver energy.

The human liver is one of the few organs that can regenerate itself from as little as 25% of tissue. The liver is the Yin organ and the gallbladder is its paired Yang organ. Acupuncturists and Chinese medicine practitioners will be using the liver and gallbladder energy to balance their patients' bodies.

Anger is the emotion for the liver and an unbalanced liver can be a source of high blood pressure, insomnia, heart problems, reproductive problems, PMS and fertility in women, headaches/ migraines, body toxicity, allergies depression, and anxiety.  The liver element is wood and the heart is fire. Anger/ wood causes fire/ heart to overwork and creates organ stressors.

The liver and gallbladder open into the eyes and often affect the eyesight. They also affect the nails. Brittle nails could be a sign of poor liver function or deficiency of the blood. Pink nails and tongue indicate healthy liver and smooth flow of energy in the body.

The good news is that Chinese herbs  and Bioresonancetherapy with Homeopathy could help the liver regenerate itself, coupled with proper diet and exercises such as yoga, tai chi, qi gong can help balance and restore the organs to harmony.

Spring in NYC, is the best season of the year and New Yorkers are usually happy in the Spring weather.

However, I noticed that some people could be easily irritable or angrier in

Spring, perhaps it is that anger element is associated with the liver. Also, in big industrial cities like New York, a busy and fast paced life can cause additional strain on people's irritability and anger.

The wood element of the liver in acupuncture is prominent in the spring as everything blooms and causes extra load on the liver to process airborne allergens. Watery red itchy eyes are also signs of the liver imbalance as the liver opens into the eyes.

THINGS BAD for the LIVER.
Alcohol, anger, stress, greasy, fried foods, drugs, toxins (food, environmental).

THINGS GOOD for the LIVER.
Sour tasting or green foods (because the sour taste and color green are associated with the liver) such as green apples, lemon or lime, avocados, and green peppers all work.

Stagnant energy makes us depressed so the Spring gives the liver a "kick" to go and "move it, move it". We feel rejuvenated and young when the energy is properly circulating in the body nourishing the organs and the mind.

The liver spreads the energy (Qi) in the body and that is why we are all so alive and well when the Springtime comes, we must be moving our energy around through sports or any other physical activities and keep our emotions positive.

Be well,

Covid19 (Coronavirus) Crisis and Opportunities

Tree of Life Acupuncture
32 Union Sq E, Ste 804, New York, NY 10003
(212) 533-1192

There is a famous Chinese proverb:
Crisis and opportunities go hand in hand.

Covid19 - coronavirus is the crisis, but what are the opportunities?

covid19 opportunities coronavirus

The biggest opportunity that the covid19 pandemic gave all of us is the gift of time!

This health pandemic gave us the time to think of life and our mortality.

The best way to deal with it is to do things that make you feel alive and happy!

For support  Join our Health & Wellness FB Group

MINDSET
Your mindset is everything!  I am in the process of writing a book on the mind, timing, and cycles based on my acupuncture clinical experience and meditations. What I noticed is most people do not have the correct starting point to address their goals or issues.

Often people with chronic health issues or problems are stuck either in the past or future or in a negative mindset. Successful and productive people evaluate current (present situation and focus on a solution to the problem rather than the problem itself.

So stay focused and plan actionable solutions or steps to resolving or improving your condition, whatever it may be.

DEATH
We all know we are going to die one day, but we want it to be on our own terms.  When something threatens our health or life, like coronavirus pandemic we get scared and defensive.

HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR ENVIRONMENT & HEALTH

* Play relaxing music and watch less Covid19 news.

SPORTS
Physical activity can generate endorphins and dopamines happiness hormones.
Exercises can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression as well and raise your oxygen intake.

LEARN something new.  Take online classes, yoga, seminars, youtube, TED Talk, cooking. I like "Masters Class" seminars.

*********************************************************************************
There is nothing like learning something new and something you like and always wanted to do. Take this opportunity to invest in yourself, something that will help you grow.
*********************************************************************************

Activities
Jogging in the park (even 30 min walk with the mask on), exercising at home, doing yoga, or even filling empty bottles with water and lifting them as dump bells will work.

Spring cleaning
Cleaning your apartment or closets can bring a sense of comfort, relaxation and coziness.

Distance Socialize
Use technology to virtually keep in touch and compensate for social distancing using:
Face Time on your phone or WhatsApp or Google Hangouts.

Get in touch with friends and family. Hearing and seeing someone close to you can create a sense of connection and comfort.

Watch Movies
Netflix, AppleTV, Amazon Prime, etc. Comedies are great for mood elevation.

Help your neighbor or someone with groceries perhaps.

Eat well and sleep well. Learn to adapt and improvise.

Stay well and healthy,
Mark
